Tell Her | The Quiet War
Men are strange about this.
We'll trust our wives with our house, our money, our kids, and our future.
But when something inside us starts going sideways?
"I'm fine." "Just tired." "Work's been a lot."
Meanwhile, something is very much not fine.
I understand it. You're supposed to be the guy she can count on. Maybe she already has enough on her plate. Maybe you don't even understand what is happening in your own head yet.
And maybe you're afraid she'll look at you differently if you tell her. So you keep it to yourself and call that protecting her.
Except she already knows something is wrong.
She notices you're quieter. She notices you're distracted. She notices when you snap over something stupid or sit three feet away from her while your mind is somewhere else.
She just doesn't know why.
When you refuse to tell her, you leave her to fill in that blank herself. You don't need to have the answer. You don't need a diagnosis. You don't even need to know exactly what you're feeling.
Start here: "Something's been off with me lately. I don't really understand it yet, but I don't want to hide it from you."
Give her the truth you have.
Then trust her with it.
We talk a lot about men needing someone to talk to. Sometimes that person is already lying next to you. You just have to let her in.
