More Than What You Carry | The Quiet War

There are men walking around right now who aren't here because they're hopeful about tomorrow.

They're here because somebody needs them. Their wife. Their kids. Their parents. Their friends.

They know what leaving would do to those people, so they stay. Even when they're exhausted. Even when they're hurting. Even when they've stopped seeing much value in their own life.

There's something heartbreaking about that.

Because even at his lowest point, a man can still be worried about protecting everyone else. We spend years learning to measure ourselves by what we can provide, fix, carry and protect. Be a good husband. Be a good father. Be dependable. Be strong when everyone else needs somewhere to lean.

Those things matter.

But somewhere in all that responsibility, it's possible to disappear.

You become valuable because you're needed instead of believing you're valuable because you're you.

If the people you love are the reason you're still here tonight, hold onto them. There is no shame in that.

But don't stop there.

You deserve to eventually find reasons that belong to you.

Something you want to see. Something you want to build. A morning you actually want to wake up for. A version of yourself you haven't met yet.

You are more than what you provide.

More than what you protect.

More than what you can carry.

And maybe part of this quiet war is learning to believe that before you put the weight back on your shoulders tomorrow.
