You’re Allowed to Step Away | The Quiet War
Men are good at convincing themselves they’ll rest later.
After the project. After the bills. After everyone else is taken care of. After life finally slows down.
Except life rarely volunteers to slow down.
Sometimes doing something for yourself means getting away for a few days. Taking the trip. Sitting somewhere unfamiliar. Turning off the noise. Laughing more. Sleeping later. Having a drink by the water. Doing absolutely nothing productive and refusing to feel guilty about it.
That isn’t abandoning your responsibilities.
It’s remembering that you are one of them.
You cannot spend your entire life being the person everyone depends on while never giving yourself permission to recharge.
And it doesn’t have to be a vacation.
Take the afternoon. Go fishing. Hit the gym. Take the long drive. Sit outside with a cigar. See the friend you keep telling, “We need to get together.” Buy the concert ticket. Take your wife somewhere. Take your kids somewhere. Or go somewhere completely alone.
Whatever gives your mind a little room to breathe.
Taking care of yourself isn’t always therapy, meditation, or some elaborate self-improvement routine.
Sometimes it’s simply saying:
I need this. And I’m going.
The battle will still be there when you get back.
But maybe you’ll come back a little stronger for it.
THE BATTLE NO ONE SEES.
